Ride North America's Longest Urban Pathway With Us Aug 12th & 13th

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

The 2nd Annual TuffHill Tour de Calgary Ride is just two weeks away!

Last year we rode the 150km Rotary/Mattamy Greenway pathway and had a blast. So...we are doing it again and we'd love for you to join us!

We will be guided by TuffHill friend and supporter Dave Hill to take us through the route over two days on Aug 12th and 13th.

You can join for the whole epic tour or meet up with us along the way.

The objective: to see your city like you've never seen it before from the comfort of your bike seat.

The TuffHill ebikes team will be riding our e-bikes, but good ol' mechanical bikes are more than welcome on this ride with us. Just keep in mind, whatever you’re riding, each day will be approx. 75km of cycling, so be sure your battery (lithium and human) is ready!

Here are the details:

The Rotary/Mattamy Greenway is a 150km loop around Calgary. We will enjoy the ride over two days, covering about 75 km each day. Day 1 will be slightly more challenging given the elevation gain (but not with a TuffHill e-bike of course 😊).

Day 1 - Saturday, August 12th: Meet at 8:00 am at the Glennfield Crocus Shelter at Fishcreek Park for a quick meet-and-greet, as well as a briefing with more details about the ride.

We’ll aim to be riding by 8:45am.

Important Note: If you are leaving your car overnight for the full ride, you won't be able to park at Fishcreek Park. So you will have to park at the Park and Ride Fishcreek/Lacombe C-Train Station, where overnight parking is permitted. From there you can take a bike path that goes under the LRT and McLeod trail to the meeting place (Glennfield Crocus Shelter). It's just a 5 min ride.

For lunch on Day 1, we will be stopping in an area that has a café and pub if you want to buy lunch. Or you can pack lunch and bring it with you.

Day 1 Highlights:

  • Fish Creek Park

  • Weaslehead Flats

  • Bow River

  • Climb to the highest point of the ride in NW Calgary, with a nice view of the mountains.

  • Optional dinner/drink to finish the ride at Burger Theory (at same location as hotel) or Railyard brewery nearby.

Overnight Saturday, August 12th: We have a reduced group rate on hotel rooms at the Holiday Inn and Suites Calgary Airport North for $159 plus tax (booked under David Hill). The hotel is close to the Greenway bike path and it has a pool and a restaurant.

Day 2 - Sunday, August 13th: Breakfast between 8-9am (there is an A&W and Tim Horton’s close by the hotel). Depart from the hotel at 9am and make our way back to Fish Creek.

Day 2 highlights:

  • Wetlands

  • Lunch stop at J’s (a local breakfast/lunch place) or Tim Hortons.

  • Bluffs

  • Fish Creek Park

We will finish the loop back where we started at the Glennfield Crocus Shelter at Fishcreek Park.

Regarding the schedule above, we will have an "it's about the journey not the destination" kind of approach, so we won't have pressure to stick to a rigid timetable.

Note on what to expect logistics-wise: this is not an official/formal event with water stations, first aid support etc. etc. It's more like you just joining your friends at TuffHill eBikes for a ride around the city. All riders will provide their own food/snacks and bring hydration supplies etc. Essentially, you ride at your own risk.

What we will help with is navigation of the route, with a few of us who can help make sure no one gets lost or left behind.

Interested in joining? If you're interested in joining us, send us an email at connect@tuffhillebikes.com so we know to expect you. We can also provide more details regarding hotel accommodation and the best way to meet up for a portion of the ride if you're unable to commit to the full 2 day loop.

It'll be a fun ride!
